Mrs Sarah Davis
Hi my name is Sarah Davis. I am married with three children. Our youngest daughter was a pupil at Penponds and I now have two granddaughters at the School. I became a co-opted governor in 2016. My main area of responsibility is Literacy. I have a passion for books and reading. I have a BSc hons degree in Combined Social Science. I have worked as an aim higher ambassador for Plymouth University and Cornwall College. I have also worked as a Youth worker for Cornwall Council taking a youth bus to rural villages and a heritage camp with Cornish and Breton teenagers. I was also part of a pilot scheme e-mentoring year 9 pupils. I am passionate about education and equal opportunities for all children.
Mr Mark Glasson
I live in Penponds and have one child at the school. All of my children have attanded Penponds School. I am a partnerships manager at the University of Plymouth, managing degree programmes delivered in Cornwall, London and Singapore. I was originally a business studies teacher before moving to the University of Plymouth to be the leader of Further and Secondary Education teacher training programmes.
Rev Olive Stevens
I am Olive Stevens and I am a Community Governor. I have been a school governor for more than 20 years. My connection with this school began in 2014 when I was Rector of Penponds Church and that connection has continued in my retirement.
My Governor responsibility is SMSC and that stands for spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and my hope is that I would help to ensure the children have opportunities to explore their own spirituality, beliefs and values and learn something of world religions and faith.
Mr Greg Springer
Originally from Hampshire, I moved to Cornwall after graduating from the University of Plymouth and I have lived in Penponds since 2012. I have been a governor and a director of the Rainbow MAT since 2013.
My youngest daughter is currently a pupil at Penponds and my eldest daughter was a pupil before moving on to Nexus at the end of Year 6 in summer 2020.
I support Mr Harvey as his Deputy Chair and have an interest in all parts of the school but am primarily focussed on PE and Sports Premium Funding.
Away from school I am the Commercial Director for the Tregothnan Estate near Truro and am a director for the recently formed Penponds Community Interest Company.
Penponds Primary School Local Governing Body
Our governing body was re-constituted on April 1st 2014 when we converted to an academy and became part of the Rainbow Multi-Academy Trust – four schools committed to working together to improve learning, outcomes and life chances for all children. The other schools in our MAT are Penponds Primary, St Meriadoc CE Infant Academy and St Meriadoc CE Junior Academy. Functions of the Governing Body
The three core strategic functions are:
- Ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
- Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils;
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
What do our governors do?
The Local Governing Body is a team of people made up of parents, staff and people from the local community. All of us serve the school by providing overall strategic leadership and management. The governors are ultimately responsible for ensuring that every child gets the best possible education at Penponds Community Primary School. All of our governors are incredibly committed volunteers and their key function is to ensure that children enjoy school and make good progress. They check that the school is making the best use of its resources, monitor the budget and help to make key decisions. To ensure they are well informed governors visit school regularly and carry out a variety of monitoring tasks which include: meeting with subject leaders, spending time in lessons, talking with children, looking at children’s work, listening to readers, looking at the learning environment, checking data, championing vulnerable groups and attending special events. Governors also attend training to make sure they are fully up to date with their statutory duties, new legislation and curriculum developments.
